ROBBED OF RICHES, WEEK 3: “Regaining My Authority”

Deep Dive 7/6/2025

THE AUTHORITY OF MY TESTIMONY

Titus 3:3-7

Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.[aHe generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”

God sent Jesus to save us by His blood from the foolishness and disobedience that ruled our lives. Jesus gives us our testimony to share with others, so as we believe, we can encourage them to do likewise. Paul encourages us through his letter to Titus that we are to have confidence in God’s rescue of us and His gift of the Spirit to guide us.

Isaiah 12:4-5

In that wonderful day you will sing:
“Thank the Lord! Praise his name!
Tell the nations what he has done.
Let them know how mighty he is!
Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things.

Make known his praise around the world.

Isaiah foretold that God would send a Savior to rescue us, and he encourages us to declare all that He has done for us to the world. We are not meant to stay silent, because our testimony has the power to change lives.

Psalm 71:15-16

15 I will tell everyone about your righteousness.
All day long I will proclaim your
saving power,
though I am not skilled with words.
16 I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord.
I will tell everyone that you alone are just.

David personally knows God’s saving power and makes a habit of declaring it to everyone, writing it down so that we can have an example. David’s testimony is a witness to us even now, a witness through the ages of the salvation and security that we find in God.

GOD CALLS ME TO SHARE MY TESTIMONY; NOT KEEP IT TO MYSELF.

1 Peter 1:6-12

So be truly glad.[b] There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So, when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. 10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you.11 They wondered what time or situation the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and his great glory afterward. 12 They were told that their messages were not for themselves, but for you. And now this Good News has been announced to you by those who preached in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen.

Peter encourages us to be thankful in trials because they test and purify our faith. He also reminds us that the messages of David and Isaiah were not for themselves, but for us. This is true of our testimonies. Like our faith, our testimonies are intended to be shared. We never know how our struggles might minister to those God divines to cross our path.

PUTTING THIS INTO PRACTICE

If God asks, are you ready to share your testimony with someone?

  • Has anyone shared a testimony that encouraged you? Reflect on ways their testimony impacted your faith.

  • Find at least one example in Scripture where someone shared a testimony.

  • Take ten minutes to write down key points about your testimony.

Would your testimony declare that you are secure in the Lord?

  • Read Psalm 16.

  • Why do you think David says, “Lord, you alone are my inheritance?”

  • Where does this Psalm meet you in your own faith journey? Does your heart resonate with what David writes, or are you in a season where it is difficult to see the Lord as your inheritance?

How can you practice “Living life in God’s power with confidence, through all circumstances, because you already know the outcome?”

  • Find a different person in Scripture than the ones listed above or during the sermon to support this statement.

  • How does spending time in God’s presence and in Christian community help remind us that we are called to live with confidence in all circumstances?

  • Journal a prayer to God asking Him to meet you where you are, to reveal the root of any uncertainty, and for direction in how He wants you to move forward in your faith.
