YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

THE FIELD IS WHERE YOU ARE FORMED
Lamentations 3:25-27
25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.
26 So it is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
27 And it is good for people to submit at an early age
to the yoke of his discipline:
We need to know beyond a doubt, that we can trust God. He saw what Samuel did not, which is why God chose David to be king of Israel. God sees our hearts. God knows that we do not have to be prepared for the calling He places on our lives, but we must have a willing heart and an unshakable trust in His goodness in order to follow where He leads.
Psalm 27:14
14 Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
We all experience different seasons of waiting. Throughout the Bible we see how God does a lot of His forming in the waiting. If you have not learned the practice of waiting patiently, let this lesson help you jump start that aspect of your faith.
Ephesians 2:1-10
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world.[a] He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
We have all done things we are not proud of when we followed our own desires, but nothing in our lives takes God by surprise. His love is greater, and He created us for good things! And, He is so amazing, that He takes our mess and turns it into His message. Step into the good things God has planned for your life. Just because something is hard, that does not mean it is bad! God is forming us in the hard so let us learn to wait patiently on His timing.
WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF IN A SEASON OF BEING FORMED, INSTEAD OF ASKING WHY, ASK GOD WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO LEARN.
Ecclesiastes 3:9-10
9 What do people really get for all their hard work? 10 I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. 11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Eternity is the end goal; it is all that matters. If we are struggling with asking God what He is teaching us through our formation, maybe it is time to take a step back and examine our priorities. Are we actively living with eternity in mind?
PUTTING THIS INTO PRACTICE
We all go through hard seasons, times of questioning God and our faith. What are you doing to grow in trusting that God is forming you in the field?
Can you think of an example of someone besides David who was formed in the field? Write down who and what they experienced.
Read Genesis 37, 39-47 if you were unable to think of an example.
Take ten minutes to journal a prayer to God about a hard season that you are in right now. In your prayer, ask Him to help you see how He is forming you during this time and preparing you for what He is calling you to do.
As you work on growing in your faith, it is important to know why you believe that God is sovereign and loving.
Read Isaiah 40.
Do you believe that God sees your troubles?
If you are struggling with this today, take some time to look up the promises of God in the Psalms. You can start with Psalm 37:7. Write out a few passages of Scripture that speak to where you are today and post them as reminders to wait on Him.
What is one area of your life where you can practice being “faithful in little things” and readjust to an eternity focus?
Journal what that area is and a plan of how you can step into that faithfulness.
Take what you wrote above and share it with a believing friend to help hold you accountable in moving forward in faith. If you do not have someone you feel you can share it with, send it through our prayer request link on the website and we will be praying with you.
Journal a prayer of worship to God, thanking Him for forming you in the field, which will give you the opportunity to do the good things He planned for you long ago, and to step into eternity and hear the words “well done.”
