WEEK 5 - OUTLINE
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD
Theme: Learning to Trust God One Day at a Time
Main Scripture: Matthew 6:11
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Supporting Scriptures
Exodus 16:4–5 • Proverbs 30:8–9 • Matthew 6:25–34 • Philippians 4:19 • John 6:32–35 • Lamentations 3:22–23
BIG IDEA
God doesn’t ask us to trust Him for everything __________________________________________________________. He invites us to trust Him for what we need __________________________________________________________. The first four weeks have moved us progressively:
Our Father → Who God is
Hallowed Be Your Name → Who God is ________________ to be
Your Kingdom Come → What God is __________________
Your Will Be Done → __________________ our plans
Now Jesus moves directly into our needs: “Give us this day our daily bread.”
Jesus is teaching us that __________________ isn’t a weakness. It’s the way God designed us to live.
LOOKING BACK
Last week we talked about __________________ our will.
We prayed: “Whatever You ask me to do today, my answer is__________________________________________.”
Did God give you an opportunity to say yes? __________________________________________________________
What did you learn about surrender?__________________________________________________________
ICEBREAKER
“IF YOU COULD NEVER WORRY ABOUT ONE THING AGAIN...”
If God guaranteed that you would never have to worry about one area of your life again, what would you choose?
My answer: __________________________________________________________
Why is that the thing you chose?__________________________________________________________
Jesus knows we’re going to have __________________. He doesn't tell us to pretend we don’t.
He teaches us how to bring those needs to __________________.
DISCOVER
Matthew 6:11 — “Give us this day our daily bread.”
Exodus 16:4 — “Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you...”
THINK ABOUT IT
Why do you think God gave Israel manna one day at a time?__________________________________________________________
POINT 1
GOD CARES ABOUT OUR NEEDS
Sometimes we think spiritual people shouldn’t ask God for __________________ things. But Jesus says: “Give us...”
Bread is basic:
_______________________________
_______________________________
_______________________________
Jesus is teaching us:
You can bring ordinary needs to an extraordinary __________________.
God cares about your spiritual life.
But He also cares about your everyday needs.
Remember:
If it’s important enough for you to __________________ about, it’s important enough for you to __________________ about.
What is one practical need you need to bring to God right now?_____________________________________________________
POINT 2
“DAILY” TEACHES US DEPENDENCE
God could have given Israel a year’s supply of __________________. He didn’t. He gave them enough for the __________________.
Why?
Because God wasn’t just feeding them. He was teaching them __________________.
Deuteronomy 8:3
God allowed them to hunger and then fed them with manna so they would learn:
“Man does not live by __________________ alone...”
Sometimes God gives us enough for today because He wants us to meet Him again __________________.
We often want:
“God, give me enough that I don’t need You __________________.”
God says:
“I want you to know that you can always __________________ Me.”
Reflection
Where do you struggle most with dependence on God?____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
POINT 3
DAILY BREAD MEANS TODAY'S GRACE
Lamentations 3:22–23
God’s mercies are: “__________________ every morning.”
Not new every decade.
Not new when you deserve them.
New every __________________.
God gives grace for:
Today’s __________________.
Today’s __________________.
Today’s __________________.
Today’s __________________.
God doesn’t give tomorrow’s grace today because you don’t need tomorrow’s grace __________________.
When tomorrow comes, __________________ will be there too.
That’s why Jesus says: “Give us ______________ day...”
POINT 4
WE DON'T HAVE TO LIVE TOMORROW TODAY
Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about __________________...”
Why? Because tomorrow has its own __________________.
Anxiety often comes from trying to experience tomorrow’s problems with today’s________________________________.
But God gives us: Today’s __________________ for today’s needs.
You don’t need tomorrow’s strength __________________.
You need today’s __________________ today.
What is something you’re currently worrying about that hasn’t happened yet?__________________________________________________________
What would it look like to leave that with God?__________________________________________________________
DISCUSSION
1. What does “daily bread” mean to you beyond literal food?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
2. Why do you think we have such a hard time trusting God one day at a time?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. What is something you’re currently trying to solve before it's time to solve it?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Have you ever experienced God providing exactly what you needed at exactly the right time?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
5. Why do you think God sometimes provides gradually instead of all at once?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
6. What is your “daily bread” right now?__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PRAYER
Take a moment to slow down and pray:
Father, thank You for today. Thank You for what You have already provided. Give us what we need today. Give us today's grace. Give us today's strength. Give us today's wisdom. Help us leave tomorrow in Your hands.
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE
THE “TODAY” CHALLENGE
Every morning pray:
“Father, give me what I need for today.”
Then write down:
Today's need: ______________________
Today's grace: ______________________
Today's opportunity: ____________________
Remember:
Don’t borrow tomorrow’s trouble.
Live today with God.
LIVE IT
At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect:
Where did I see God provide today?__________________________________________________________
Where did I experience God's grace today?__________________________________________________________
What am I tempted to worry about tomorrow? __________________________________________________________
What can I leave in God's hands?__________________________________________________________
ANCHORED IN PRAYER
The prayer Jesus teaches us reminds us that we don’t have to figure everything out at once.
Today, I can trust God.
Today, I can depend on God.
Today, I can receive God’s grace.
Today, I can bring my needs to God.
Today, I can leave tomorrow in God’s hands.
My prayer:
“Father, give me what I need for today, and teach me to trust You with tomorrow.” Amen.
